We-Vibe Tango X Review
The We-Vibe Tango has been a staple of almost every sex toy connoisseur’s toy box ever since its release. Despite its flaws, such as an unpredictable battery, notoriously fickle charger and often short overall lifespan, its legacy as one of the most powerful, rumbly bullet vibrators to ever hit the market has endured for over a decade, delighting clitorises around the world. My bed side table has pretty much never been without one (usually two!) and the number I have worn out over the years is… well into double digits.
Needless to say it certainly set the bar high for its latest, freshly reimagined incarnation, the We-Vibe Tango X. Let’s see how it measures up!
Meet the We-Vibe Tango X
We-Vibe are one of my favourite toy manufacturers of all time. Their designs have always been fun, sleek and colourful. As much as the term makes me cringe, We-Vibe toys are aesthetic “pleasure products” as opposed to tacky “adult novelties” and the Tango X is no exception.
It arrives in gorgeous bright packaging to match the cherry red colour-way of the toy (also available in midnight blue) that I absolutely love. I know I often make a fuss over packaging in my reviews, but I truly believe it is part of the experience of purchasing a luxury product. We-Vibe use minimal plastic and the box is sturdy enough to use as a long term storage solution. Along with the toy, you get its USB charger, a silky polyester storage bag (I would prefer a plain cotton or other natural fibre fabric), instructions and warranty information (We-Vibe products come with a 24 month warranty against manufacturing defects) and a lube sample sachet.
What’s new?
The Tango X sports the familiar “lipstick style” slanted tip and glossy ABS plastic of the original Tango, but then things get a bit different.
The base of the toy flares out into an ergonomic silicone dream of a control panel. The Tango X features not one but three buttons; a + and a – (which are helpfully slightly raised) to increase and decrease the intensity of the vibrations, and a third wavy line in between to cycle through the pattern settings. The original Tango, à la most classic bullet vibes, has just the one button to cycle through the intensities and patterns.
A downside to this new base is the Tango X is not compatible with dildos or butt plugs which feature a slot in the base for a bullet. For me personally, this is not much of a sacrifice as I don’t really use toys in this way, but it’s something to bear in mind.
The charger cable and magnetic attachment point have also been redesigned. It might sound a bit sad but this is actually my favourite improvement! The magnetic connection is significantly stronger and more stable than its predecessor, ensuring a reliable full charge, full power and the best battery life out of your toy.
More settings! More power?
The major upgrade that will be most attractive to users is the Tango X has more settings to play around with, including 8 intensities of constant vibration and 6 additional patterns which can also be adjusted. That’s a lot for such a small toy!
Power wise, the Tango X performs exactly as expected. Its vibrations are strong, rumbly and penetrating – everything I love about the OG Tango. The 8 speeds allow a smoother transition between each intensity which I appreciate as the original Tango could sometimes be a bit of a shock to the system, particularly the jump from first to second speed. Having the ability to cycle up and down through the speeds is a stand out function too.
For all its power, the Tango X is very quiet; easily muffled by a duvet and unobtrusive during partnered sex. A+.
The Tango X has pattern settings if they’re your thing. I virtually never use patterns with clitoral toys, but for those who do, there is a selection and they can all be adjusted in intensity too.
If I was to nitpick, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to be in a tiny minority here, I find the Tango X a little too rumbly. The slower frequency of the vibrations is great for a warm up, but sometimes I find myself struggling to orgasm on the highest setting if I don’t take my time to allow the rumbles fully penetrate and arouse the deeper clitoral structures (which is awesome and I should do it more often). My apparently picky clitoris prefers the Lovehoney Desire Bullet’s little bit of buzz if I want to get off very quickly/lazily without having to concentrate. This is a purely “me” issue and not a fault of the toy itself!
Final thoughts
There truly is very little to criticise about the We-Vibe Tango X that isn’t purely subjective.
If you’re in the market for a small, discreet, reliable and good looking bullet vibe or looking to replace an original Tango, then I highly recommend upgrading to the Tango X.
