We-Vibe Rave 2 Review

We-Vibe are back at it again, revisiting and refining one of their great tried and trusted designs. This time it’s the We-Vibe Rave 2‘s turn.

The original Rave is a great stand alone, multipurpose vibrator and is still available for purchase (usually at a small discount!) on the We-Vibe site. Its intriguing shape and rumbly motor have kept it relevant after many years on the market. I have had mine since around 2016 and it’s still buzzing!

So what’s new? And is it better? Read on!

We-Vibe Rave 2

Meet the Rave 2

So, as usual I’m gonna gush over We-Vibe’s packaging – and celebrate as it is finally plastic free!

When you lift the lid of its thick cardboard presentation box you are greeted by the Rave 2 nestled in a cardboard insert and looking every inch the luxury product it is. Inside the box is also a couple of user guides, a magnetic USB charger cable that is compatible across nearly all currently available We-Vibe sex toys (excluding the old models of the Rave, Tango and Touch, and the Sync Lite), and a branded drawstring storage bag made from natural fibres. The box is so sturdy it could even be used as a long term storage solution if you so wish.

The We-Vibe Rave 2 is extremely attractive and well made which is no surprise – with We-Vibe products you can pretty much guarantee you’re going to experience a superb quality sex toy before you even open the box. The silicone is smooth, not grainy and has very minimal drag when lubed up.

The Rave 2 is available in powder blue or the dark fuchsia pink I received and I have no complaints. We-Vibe are great with their choices of colours and nearly always have an alternative for those who are particularly averse to the usual neon pinks and purples.

What’s new?

The Rave 2 is visually very similar to the original Rave. It retains that twisted, asymmetrical shape that makes it interesting and the bulbous tip that makes it an effective G-spotter, but the edges are a little more refined; the control panel has had one hell of an upgrade with larger, raised buttons that make it a lot more user friendly; it now boasts two rumbly motors; and the bend in the middle section is slightly slimmer on the Rave 2.

Oh yeah, about that bend… it, well, bends. The shaft of the We-Vibe Rave 2 is posable which sets it apart from the original model and other similar G-spot oriented vibrators.

The mechanism is easy to adjust gently by hand and bends smoothly and silently. That last bit might sound weird, but I’ve found other products with a similar feature (the Lelo Mona Wave immediately springs to mind) can be a bit crunchy and sound like they’re not supposed to bend that way. The Rave 2‘s silicone skin does wrinkle around the bending mechanism; mine now has a slight crease that has become more prominent over time and I’m unsure how long or well that will hold up.

However, I’m not personally super bothered by this feature and prefer using the Rave 2 completely un-flexed to make more use out of the length.

Wait, what about those dual motors?!

Ah yes, I did gloss over those a little bit!

The other major difference between the Rave 2 and original model is the addition of another motor. The Rave 2 has a similar kind of arrangement to the Hot Octopuss Kurve (that I previously reviewed and enjoy a lot), with one motor in the tip intended to provide G-spot vibration and a second around the middle of the shaft that stimulates the entrance to the vagina.

The Rave 2 has four sensibly placed and intuitive buttons to cycle up and down through intensities and patterns plus a button that switches each motor on or off. The motors can run separately or at the same time and there are 6 patterns that all feel a little different depending which motor(s) you have running.

The We-Vibe Rave 2‘s motors are both wonderfully rumbly and juddery and put out a decent amount of power. Most users are gonna be perfectly satisfied. However, when compared side by side in use, I actually found that my original Rave with its single motor in the tip feels stronger than the Rave 2 while running both of its motors which is interesting…

The motor in the middle of the shaft of the Rave 2 has an irritating side effect of producing a lot of hand vibration. After a few uses I stopped noticing it until I switched back to the original Rave which does not have this issue.

We-Vibe Rave 2 controls Patterns

So, patterns on vibrators are widely regarded as… divisive. I know a lot of folks with vulvas would just rather not.

I personally detest patterns on clitoral toys but I actually prefer them on internal vibrators.

If I’m using the We-Vibe Rave 2 externally, I just set the motor in the tip to full power and go at it – no notes. Internally, I prefer both motors set on a pattern. There’s one that seems to flit from one motor to the other which creates a pulsing, mini pseudo-thrusting sensation which is just my jam.

One last thing!

Of course there’s an app for everything these days and yep, that includes your sex toys.

We-Vibe offer one of the most user friendly, reliable and comprehensive sex toy apps, it’s been around for a while now and it’s compatible across a vast range of their products.

If you want the ultimate customisable experience then you need to check out the We-Vibe app. It’s free and available on the App Store and Google Play. I have used it on my iPhone and iPad and found the experience very straightforward.

Connecting your toy via bluetooth takes seconds and couldn’t be much simpler (just follow the prompts in the app). Then you’ve unlocked additional functions such as the ability to have your Rave 2 buzz along to music from your phone’s library or ambient sounds such as a partner’s voice. You can create your own pattern ‘playlists’ or control the toy’s intensity by simply swiping your phone screen.

In a long distance relationship? The app enables long distance fun, allowing a partner to take control of your Rave 2 using their own smart device via the internet while your device is paired to the toy, and even includes a chat feature.

The takeaway

The Rave 2 is yet another superb We-Vibe offering that I’m delighted to have in my arsenal. The bendable shaft brings something new to the table and I love the positioning of the two motors (aside from the hand vibration side effect) and that they can be operated independently. The app also offers up more opportunities for experimentation and long distance partnered play.

However, due to my experience of my original Rave (that I’ve had for 7+ years) feeling stronger in the tip I must say that if you are looking for a multipurpose vibrator but are likely to use it for direct clitoral stimulation more often than internal, then I’d recommend grabbing an original Rave while it is still available.
